Kheiron Workshop: Showcasing the future of breast cancer screening: Applications of AI across the screening pathway

To have the greatest impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of breast cancer screening, we need to integrate AI solutions across the entire screening pathway – not only during image interpretation.

One of the key areas where AI can deliver efficiency benefits is right at the beginning of the pathway: When the woman is invited to schedule her screening mammogram. Over the past 18-months, Covid-19 has exacerbated existing backlogs due to radiologist shortages and demanding workloads.  As a result, now more than ever, time is of the essence for millions of unscreened women around the world.  Renowned statistician Professor Stephen Duffy will share how the UK Breast Screening Programme is tackling this challenge with the support of Kheiron’s AI-enabled invitation tool, RSViP.

Another key area for AI integration is during image acquisition and audit. Professor Ruud Pijnappel of the LRCB in The Netherlands and Dr. Randy Hicks of US-based Regional Medical Imaging  will discuss why radiologists must insist on well positioned, properly exposed mammograms, and the importance of working in partnership with their radiographers to optimise image quality. These leaders will share their lessons learned and discuss what value they believe AI solutions such as Kheiron’s Mia IQ can bring to the acquisition of mammography images.
